How we produce
your estimate.
A step-by-step explanation of how we assess, scope, and price your plumbing or heating work.
From enquiry to estimate
Here's exactly what happens when you request a quote from APL Plumbing.
You submit your request
Use our online quote request form to describe the work you need. Include as much detail as possible — the more information you provide, the more accurately we can assess the scope. Photos are helpful for repair work.
We review your requirements
We review your request within one business day. For straightforward jobs, we may be able to provide an estimate based on your description. For more complex work, we'll contact you to discuss the details or arrange a site visit.
Site visit (where required)
For larger or more complex projects, we carry out a site visit to assess the existing installation, take measurements, and identify any constraints. This allows us to produce an accurate estimate and reduces the risk of variations during the works.
We produce a written estimate
We produce a written estimate that sets out the scope of works, the materials we intend to use, and the expected timescale. We make clear whether we are providing a fixed-price quote or an estimate, and explain the circumstances under which the cost might vary.
You review and confirm
You review the estimate at your own pace. If you have questions, we're happy to discuss them. When you're ready to proceed, you confirm in writing and we schedule the works.
Works carried out
We carry out the works as described in the estimate. If we encounter something unexpected that affects the scope or cost, we stop and discuss it with you before proceeding. We never carry out additional chargeable work without your agreement.
Completion and invoice
On completion, we provide a written summary of the works carried out. The invoice matches the agreed estimate. Any variations that were agreed during the works are clearly itemised.
What happens when something changes
In plumbing and heating work, it's not always possible to foresee every aspect of a job before work begins. When we encounter something unexpected — a concealed leak, corroded pipework, or a structural constraint — we follow a clear process.
- We stop work and assess the situation
- We explain what we've found and the options available
- We provide a written variation estimate
- We only proceed with your written agreement
- The variation is itemised on the final invoice
We never carry out additional chargeable work without your knowledge and agreement.
